Dr Alex Bliss, Associate Professor in Strength and Conditioning Science at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has recently been appointed to the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board for some of golf’s foremost organisations.
The Board contains representatives from the The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), and the Men’s and Ladies’ European Tour Performance Institutes. Alex has been appointed for two years, with an option to extend.
On the appointment Alex said, “I am delighted and honoured to join the Medical and Scientific Advisory team. The opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the sport and play a role in improving medical and scientific advice given to golfers and their support staff is a really exciting prospect. I’d like to thank the team for asking me to join and look forward to starting soon.”
The Board is chaired by Prof Andrew Murray, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer for the European Tour group. Prof Murray said of Alex’s appointment to the Board, “We benefit from having experts we can call upon from across the world, and from a range of medical and scientific disciplines including physical preparation, medical, nutrition and mental health. The team have worked with players and leading organisations to consider what the major research problems are and address them successfully. Alex with his background, and as the Editor-In-Chief of the International Journal of Sports Science, will I am sure add real value.”
