The Business Clinic at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) hosted its first hackathon earlier in March, offering an afternoon of brainstorming and innovation.

Several local businesses attended the event, bringing with them their own particular business challenge to collaborate on with students and academics from the Faculty of Business and Law. Challenges varied from a marketing strategy to ways to use social media in marketing.

Each challenge was time-limited and after just over an hour and half, the teams presented their challenges to a panel of judges.

Speaking on the hackathon, Business Clinic Lead and Lecturer in Business Management Dr Luisa Weinzierl said, “The environment was high-energy and pushed all the participants to adapt quickly and think critically. The teams were all very impressive and provided excellent examples of entrepreneurial thinking. The prizes went to Team inHERit Health Ltd, an app that empowers women to make informed healthcare decisions.”

The Business Clinic plans to host another hackathon later in the year. For more information on Business and Law Clinic activities at St Mary’s, please visit https://www.stmarys.ac.uk/business-law-and-society/law-clinic/business-clinic.aspx
