St Mary’s University, Twickenham, academic Prof Dan Cleather, has released his latest book, Strength Training for Endurance Performance.
In Strength Training for Endurance Performance, Prof Cleather tackles common concerns and misconceptions surrounding strength training in endurance sports, helping endurance athletes and coaches refine their training approach and providing evidence of the critical role of strength training in maximising endurance performance.
The book focuses on the direct link between an athlete’s ability to express force and their endurance capabilities. With extensive research written in an accessible style, it will be used as both an educational resource and a practical guide.
Prof Cleather commented: “This book provides a strong foundation to build awareness of the importance of cementing strength training as a fundamental part of an endurance athletes’ training programme. This reflects the same evidence-based approach we follow on our Masters’ programme at St Mary’s, but breaks the process into a resource which is accessible to all.”
Prof Cleather joined St Mary’s University in 2009, where he currently teaches on the MSc Strength and Conditioning programme. Before Prof Cleather joined the University, he spent six years as a strength and conditioning coach at the English Institute of Sport, where he coached World and Olympic champions in athletics, fencing, rowing, and rugby, and he also served as the Finance Director for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association.
This publication marks the third instalment in his Force series, which includes Force: The Biomechanics of Training where he explores why understanding force is a fundamental aspect of designing effective training programmes.
