Senior Lecturer in Strength & Conditioning Science at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU), Dr Giuseppe Cimadoro, was recently invited to be the Keynote speaker at the International Muay Thai Conference 2025.

Dr Cimadoro delivered his keynote titled ‘Muay Thai Training 2.0: From Tradition to Science’, as an esteemed expert in the field. In his session, he also explored ways to integrate traditional practices with modern, cutting-edge training approaches, emphasizing how science can enhance performance and preserve the art's cultural roots.

The conference was held by Kasetsart University in Bangkok on Sunday 16th March and was sponsored by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). The event was also broadcast live and featured on Thai national television news.

During his trip to Thailand, Dr Cimadoro was also invited by the founders of the Hub of Muay Thai to assist in expanding their network. The Hub of Muay Thai aims to share professional Muay Thai performance worldwide with Petchyindee Gym, considered the leading professional Muay Thai camp in Thailand. During this visit, Dr Cimadoro observed a training session and discussed practical matters to help their sports scientist implement modern training and monitoring approaches.

Speaking on his time at the conference and in Thailand, Dr Cimadoro said, “The conference celebrated and explored the rich heritage of Muay Thai, Thailand's national sport, while addressing its global impact, modern training techniques, and future opportunities. It was a true honour to be invited as the keynote speaker. I also conducted a practical workshop to ensure that the information was accessible to a diverse audience, including academics, researchers, students, and Muay Thai trainers.

“This trip was a remarkable professional and life experience. In less than 10 days, I lectured Thai students at the Kasetsart University Sport Science Faculty, connected and initiated collaborations with professional Muay Thai gyms to influence their training practices (Petchyindee Gym Bangkok, 7MuayThai Rayong), and planned applied research with KU in Muay Thai across a range of topics. These topics include the physiology of Muay Thai, biomechanics of striking techniques, notational analysis of professional competitions (RWS, One Lumpinee, Thai Fight), rehabilitation, and specific Muay Thai physical preparation. I am grateful to be given this responsibility and to be validated as an expert in the country where Muay Thai is the National Sport, particularly given my consistent efforts in the world of stand-up striking combat sports since a young age."
