St Mary’s Nutrition Academic Publishes Edible Flowers Book

St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) Senior Lecturer in Nutrition Dr Magali Chohan has announced the launch of her book, Edible Flowers, which is an informative and beautifully illustrated guide exploring the profound healing properties of the natural world.

In Edible Flowers, Dr Magali Chohan delves into the science and ancient wisdom behind using herbs, flowers, and plants to improve health and well-being. Drawing on years of research and personal experience, she introduces readers to the transformative potential of nature’s offerings, from soothing teas to skin-nourishing balms, all of which can be made at home using simple ingredients.

The book has been illustrated by Jazmin Morrone, a Research Assistant at St Mary’s University.

Speaking on the book, Dr Magali Chohan said, “Plants have been a cornerstone of healing for centuries, and I wanted to share that knowledge with the modern world. Edible Flowers takes readers on a journey through a variety of plants known for their medicinal properties, including lavender, chamomile, dandelion, pot marigold, viola, and many others. The book is organized by flower type, offering practical advice on cultivation, harvesting, and creating remedies to address common health concerns such as stress, insomnia, digestive issues, skin irritations, and more.

About the Author

Dr Magali Chohan is a mindful and devoted educator bridging traditional knowledge with scientific evidence of plant wisdom to help others unlock nature’s healing power for modern wellness. Magali spent her childhood in rural France, surrounded by botanicals which inspired her to pursue studies in Aromatherapy, Herbal Medicine, and Nutritional Medicine. She attended University in the UK as a mature student and completed a BSc in Nutrition, followed by a PhD on the health benefits of culinary herbs in 2011. Magali has since been working as an academic, currently as a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Course Lead at St Mary’s University. Magali co-authored the book Culinary Herbs and Spices: A Global Guide in 2021. This inspired her to undertake new projects, including a series of self-help journals as well as Edible Flowers.

About the Illustrator

Jazmin Morrone is an active research scientist who finds passion in intertwining the worlds of art and science. Having specialised in hyper-realistic pencil artwork since the age of 14, she has spent the past decade honing her craft and has sold and displayed her art globally. With an undergraduate degree in Applied Physics and Master’s in Cognitive Neuroscience, Jazmin now devotes much of her artistic expression into bridging intricate artwork into the world of science and mathematics. Although Jazmin’s research focuses on the human brain and exploring the complexities of physics, she enjoys using her art to communicate complex scientific concepts and has even done so within her own published work.
