The Endurance Performance Centre (EPC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) has enjoyed a highly successful few weeks, showcasing outstanding performances across multiple prestigious British University and National events.
At the BUCS Cross Country Championships held in Cardiff, the senior Men’s A team were led home by EPC athlete and current SMU student Matthew Pickering delivering a commendable finish in 13th place, with EPC students Frank McGrath and Sam Charig closely behind. All three making the top 20.
Fellow EPC student Mia Waldman secured a podium finish, placing 3rd in the Senior Women's A race. Overall SMU women’s and men’s teams finished 5th place.
The BUCS Indoor Championships held in Sheffield saw Sam Charig dominate his heat and semi-final, before executing an exciting winning strategy in the 1500m final. Mia Waldman continued her impressive form, finishing 3rd in the 3km final after leading and winning her heat and semi-final. EPC athletes Lola Sutton, Hannah Clark, Lottie McClaren and Orla Gregory made the finals in their respective events, and set new personal bests, highlighting the depth of talent within the team.
At the English National Cross Country Championships held at Parliament Hill, Matthew Pickering and Frank McGrath achieved outstanding results, finishing 1st and 2nd respectively in the Junior Men's race.
EPC athlete Amelia Quirk prevailed over the challenging conditions to finish 2nd in the Senior Women’s race and EPC alumna Kate Estlea-Morris produced a strong performance in 13th. In the Senior Men’s race, EPC alumnus Tom Butler finished 30th in a competitive field.
EPC alumnus Cameron Allen took the win at the Battersea 10km in a time of 28:46, achieving the fastest road 10k in the UK so far this year.
The UK Athletics Indoor Track Championships in Birmingham also saw EPC alumni Tom Randolph and Joe Wigfield finishing 3rd and 5th respectively in the 800m final.
Fellow alumna Revve Walcot-Nolan finished 2nd in the 1500m, with both Tom and Revee having been selected for GB at the upcoming European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
St Mary’s University and the EPC continue to be a leading force in endurance sports, fostering talent and achieving excellence on the national stage. These achievements underscore the dedication and hard work of the athletes and coaches at the Endurance Performance Centre.
