Ten students from St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) recently attended the London Universities and Colleges Athletics (LUCA) Indoor Championship at Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
Ruben Hedman, Liam Roberts, and Isaac Wright took home Gold medals for St Mary’s at the event in the Men’s 60m Hurdles, Men’s 200m, and Men’s High Jump respectively.
Students Keira Paterson-Jewel, Frankie Latouche, Mayur Raju, Micah Smith, and Calum Regis-Edwards also all achieved personal bests on the day.
Speaking on these achievements, St Mary’s student and member of the SMU Athletics Club sprint faction Ruben Hedman said, “We’re delighted that the LUCA Indoor Championships has been our biggest sprint and field turnout in years, coming away with three Gold medals and numerous PBs.
“The sprint faction at the University has been increasing day by day, and we are well into our winter training as a group. From novices to more experienced athletes, every single member of the team is improving week to week. Preparation for the BUCS Indoor Championships is well underway and we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout at Sheffield in February!”
