The Critical Perspectives on Career and Career Guidance (COCAG) initiative, which was awarded to St Mary's University, Twickenham (SMU) earlier this year, commenced in October and will last for four years.

The SMU team members are Dr Silvia Riva as Participant Member & Management Committee Member, and Dr Marcelle Fernandes-Holder and Dr Lori Minini as Participant Members.

The initiative brings together scholars across Europe and beyond to examine how careers are evolving, and to consider necessary responses from public policy and practice. The project will explore:

  • How can we understand the challenges and changes to careers today?
  • How should policymakers address these challenges?
  • How can career guidance adopt a critical approach to respond more effectively?

COCAG hopes to spark discussions, encourage publications, build research connections, and promote new research directions. It will also communicate findings to policymakers and practitioners.

A key aim of COCAG is capacity building, particularly for Young Researchers and Innovators, by offering networking, collaboration, and development opportunities. The project will enhance collaboration among COST Member Countries, Near Neighbour Countries (NNC), and International Partner Countries (IPC), with a focus on Inclusiveness Target Countries. Additionally, it will strengthen the link between research, practitioners, and policymakers to exchange and expand knowledge in the field.
