St Mary’s Welcomes Visit from GIFT University to Explore Partnership

St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) has welcomed a visitor from the Gujranwala Institute of Future Technologies (GIFT) University to campus last week. GIFT is a leading university located in the Gujranwala region of Punjab, Pakistan.

Associate Professor and Director for the Centre of Experiential Learning at GIFT University, Dr Sobia Bano, was invited to SMU to discuss potential collaboration and formal partnerships in sports, technology, and allied health between the two universities.

This visit followed a previous trip in which Associate Professor and Subject Leader for Computer Science at SMU, Prins Butt, visited GIFT University.

During her visit Dr Sobia Bano was shown SMU’s state-of-the-art Computer Science facilities and labs. Dr Sobia also met with academic staff and students on the Computer Science course, further facilitating discussions between the two universities on the subject.

St Mary’s launched its hands-on Computer Science BSc and MSc degree programmes in 2023, with the courses designed to give students training in data management, artificial intelligence, cyber security, computer programming, cloud computing, IT service management, and financial operations.

GIFT University also offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Computer Science.

Speaking on the visit, Computer Science Associate Professor and Subject Lead Prins Butt said, “The discussions with Dr Sobia Bano were incredibly fruitful, highlighting numerous avenues for collaboration that will mutually benefit both our institutions. The visit has paved the way for strengthened academic and professional ties between the two universities."
