The Faculty of Sport, Technology and Health Sciences has a strong research culture and we are proud to be conducting research that is both furthering scientific knowledge and understanding, but is also being used to inform and enhance applied practice way beyond the laboratory.
Our physiology laboratories and environmental chamber are BASES accredited, while our nutrition kitchen and laboratories for studying biomechanics and human movement science, nutrition and genetics, and physics are all equipped with cutting edge technology and equipment. These facilities enable our staff and students to investigate issues that are enabling improvements in both performance and quality of life.
From investigating how compression garments aid performance and recovery in marathon runners, to working with amputees through their physical and psychological recovery; from studying creativity and decision-making in elite footballers, to improving physical activity in school children; all of these topics and more are the focus of research activity within the Faculty.
All our researchers also lecture on academic programmes in the Faculty. This means the cutting edge research they are conducting is being used to directly inform their teaching. So not only is our research benefitting society beyond the university, but our students also know the teaching they receive couldn’t be more up-to-date!
Research clusters
Our research activity is underpinned by specialist research clusters, each with clearly defined areas of interest.
