St Mary’s Students Chosen for English Universities Women’s Hockey Squad

Two students at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) have been chosen to join the English Universities Sport (EUS) Women’s Hockey Squad for the 2023/24 season. Lulu Banks and Maisie Davidson were selected to join the squad of 23 women after completing successful regional and national trials.

Two students at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU) have been chosen to join the English Universities Sport (EUS) Women’s Hockey Squad for the 2023/24 season.

Lulu Banks and Maisie Davidson were selected to join the squad of 23 women after completing successful regional and national trials.

Both Lulu and Maisie are final year students at St Mary’s, studying Physical Education, Sport and Youth Development.

English Universities Sport is the official association for England which administrates and sanctions all representative student sport and competition across higher education. It is a membership organisation made up of over 90 higher and further education institutions.

EUS provides first-class coaching and high-end competition for top students in hockey, football, netball, basketball, and rugby sevens.

Speaking on this achievement, Maisie said, “I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity to play at this level of hockey. It’s my second year in the programme and I’m looking forward to our upcoming fixtures. We’ve already had a couple of games which were a positive start to the season.”

Lulu added, “I’m really looking forward to playing on the team this season and I feel really thankful to have this opportunity”.

St Mary’s is internationally renowned for sport, offering degrees in physiology, rehabilitation and physiotherapy, sport psychology, nutrition, coaching science, and strength and conditioning. The University has established links with national sporting organisations including Fulham FC, Chelsea FC, Harlequin RFC, and London Gymnastics.
