Winning Weekend for St Mary's Athletes and Alumni

­There was a weekend of success for the Endurance and Performance Centre (EPC) at St Mary's University, Twickenham (SMU) with Beth Potter, Jack Rowe and Charlotte Purdue all finishing strongly in high profile events.

Alumna Beth Potter is now a Triathlon World Champion having clinched the title at the finals of the World Triathlon Championship Series in Spain. Beth, who trained with the EPC whilst undertaking a PGCE at SMU, came back despite falling behind in the event, finishing top of the triathlon standings and be crowned world champion.

In London, Jack Rowe bested over 6,000 other runners to finish winner of the Vitality 10k with a time of 28:13. Ben Bradley finished runner-up with 29:32 and alumnus Ellis Cross also performed well, securing a top 10 finish with a time of 30:04.

Meanwhile in Germany, there was a breakthrough performance from Charlotte Purdue in the Berlin Marathon. Charlotte finished 9^th overall, and has moved to 2nd on the British all-time list with a 2:22:17 marathon, a time only bettered by Paula Radcliffe.

Commenting on the weekend of success, EPC coach Mick Woods said: “It was a brilliant weekend for those associated with the EPC, seeing current and former EPC athletes perform at the highest level. I am sure performances like these will serve as an inspiration to others on the programme.”
