St Mary’s University, Twickenham has seen a large rise in its ranking in the 2023 Complete University Guide (CUG).
The University has climbed 24 places to sit in the top 90 of the 2023 CUG, making it the fourth highest riser in this year’s edition. St Mary's was also ranked 5th in the country on the league table for student satisfaction.
Success continued on the subject tables, where the University saw ten programmes increase their ranking. Psychology saw the highest rise of 42 places, a further five subject areas rose over 20 places on the table, including English, Business Management, Sport Science, Communications and Media Studies, and History. The Creative and Professional Writing Programme was also rated in the top three nationally for student satisfaction.
One of the big three national ranking tables, alongside the Sunday Times Good University Guide and the Guardian University Guide, CUG compares universities across the country on a range of key measures, including graduate prospects, student satisfaction, research quality and entry requirements, amongst many others.
St Mary’s has also seen success in other recent rankings. In the 2022 Sunday Times Good University Guide, the University was rated in the top five nationally for student experience and the top ten for teaching quality. St Mary’s also saw its highest ever ranking on the table, sitting in the top half of the table for the first time in 67th place.
The University was the highest riser in the Times Higher Education Research Excellence Rankings, climbing 32 places since the previous edition. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, the majority of research submitted by St Mary’s was 4* World Leading or 3* Internationally Excellent in its originality, significance, and rigour. The University more than doubled its research rated by the REF in the top two three- and four-star classifications as compared to the previous research exercise in 2014.
