Welcome to St Mary’s University, Twickenham: we can’t wait to meet you! We understand that starting university can be a daunting time but don’t worry, because we have put together some useful tips to help calm your nerves.
Get Connected
We recommend following us on social media to keep updated with news and events from the University. Find us on:
Make sure to also follow the Student Union and 2021simmies on instagram for more information on events and advice to help you settle into university life.
A big part of university is meeting new people and we understand that can be scary, which is why we run a St Mary's University Twickenham Applicants Facebook page. You can connect with people you are going to be living and studying with before the semester begins!
Listen to our Podcast
We have recently launched a new podcast UniCast which provides people with advice on all things university - from picking the right university to your first night in halls. The first three episodes are out now. Listen on:
Keep Organised
The first few weeks at university can be overwhelming: there’s a lot to remember, from assignment deadlines, society and sports club taster sessions, and Fresher’s week. The best way to keep track of everything is to use a calendar or diary; it can even be as simple as your iPhone calendar.
Book a Tutorial
The jump from A Levels to an undergraduate degree can be challenging for several reasons - if you are studying a subject you are unfamiliar with, it can take time to understand the content. Learning to reference your work can also be difficult to grasp. The best way to tackle those challenges is to ask questions, look at feedback and book a tutorial with your lecturers to discuss your work.
Reach Out for Support
St Mary’s is a welcoming and friendly environment; our Wellbeing team offers a range of support to students including, free counselling and mindfulness sessions, and the Student Union and Chaplaincy also have an open-door policy so all students are welcome to come and speak with staff anytime.
For most of our courses, the Undergraduate student induction week begins on the 20th – 24th September however some dates do vary so, we recommend checking the dates on our induction information page.
