Prof Chris Keith, Director of the Centre for the Social-Scientific Study of the Bible at St Mary's University, Twickenham is a co-investigator on a collaborative research project with colleagues at Duke University and the University of Michigan that has received $11,000 in funding from the Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University.
Prof Keith's collaborators are Prof William A. Johnson, Duke University, and Dr Rebecca Scharbach Wollenberg, University of Michigan, and the project is entitled The Cultures of Reading around the Ancient Mediterranean: Jews, Christians, Greeks, Romans, and Others.
The funding supports a workshop on October 28, 2019 at Duke University where scholars of ancient Judaism and early Christianity will apply Johnson's model for "reading cultures" to these groups. This workshop is the first of three research events in the overall project, which will lead to a major edited volume. St Mary's is currently scheduled to host the third research event in May/June 2021.
