St Mary's Academic Appointed Visiting Fellow at Griffith Law School

Co-Director of the Centre for Law and Culture at St Mary’s University, Twickenham Dr Thomas Giddens has been invited to take up a Visiting Fellowship at Griffith Law School at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia. The Fellowship is officially linked with Griffith Law School’s new ‘Law Futures Centre’, and Dr Giddens will hold the Fellowship from 15 July to 16 August 2016. Griffith Law School is an internationally recognised centre for critical theoretical scholarship at the intersection of law and the humanities, and during his visit Dr Giddens will be working on collaborative projects exploring key areas of law, popular culture, and critical theory. Areas of particular focus will be the presentation of law and justice in manga and Japanese popular culture, as well as critical issues in visual culture, posthumanism, and legal aesthetics. Dr Giddens will also be delivering a lecture as part of the Law Futures Centre’s inaugural lecture series. Dr Giddens said, “I feel honoured to have been invited to Visit Griffith Law School. It’s a law school with a really great reputation for work in the critical legal humanities. The Fellowship represents an excellent opportunity for international collaboration and the forging of research connections between the Centre for Law and Culture here at St Mary’s and the wide community of critical and cultural legal scholars based in and around Australia.
