Ahead of Freshers’ Week, commencing on 21st September, the Students’ Union at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has appointed a new sabbatical team to represent students over the coming academic year.
Elections were held to appoint the year-long positions, which are voted for by current students and saw graduates Ryan Jones elected as Students’ Union President and Josh Moss as Athletics Union President. The pair, along with an executive committee, will be responsible for organising student events, overseeing clubs and societies as well as offering general support to students.
SU President Ryan Jones commented, “The Students’ Union is for every student here at St Mary’s and I would encourage them all to get involved in the activities and events we are planning over the next year. My Job is to represent their voice and make sure they are represented and listened to by the University.
“The events that we are planning will elevate the student experience and ensure it is a year that won’t be forgotten. The Students’ Union will also be a really great avenue to help students develop their skills, learn new things, pursue a sport or interest and meet new friends.”
AU President Josh Moss added, “To be voted in as St Marys AU president was a huge honour and I am really looking forward to the year ahead and having a positive impact on students and their time at the University.
“My main Job is to develop all of the clubs and societies and support the development of the new SIMMSactive programme. I am also here to organise the Ski-Trip, the sport and societies dinner and, of course, the annual west London Varsity. Another thing on the agenda is to increase the appearance of the student body at university open days and improve the use of the SMSU YouTube channel.”
