A BSc Strength and Conditioning Science Lecturer at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has taken a podium position at the recent England’s Strongest Woman competition 2014.
Emily Cushion, who is also a former student of the University and member of the St Mary’s Strength Club, competed in the Championships which took place in Southampton on Saturday 20th September.

Unlike traditional weightlifting championships, Strongest Woman competitors take part in five events throughout the day to test all aspects of their strength including log press, car deadlift, van pull, farmers walk and atlas stone.
Participating in the U75kg category against World Championship competitors, Emily took third place. She said, “The two girls who beat me are heading to the World Championships in November, so it was fantastic to finish alongside them.
“I have been training at The Athletic Edge in Hampton Wick and look forward to the new Strength and Conditioning facility opening at St Mary’s next month as there will be space for Strongman sessions. I hope to get some more females involved too!”
St Mary’s new Strength and Conditioning facility will open in October and will offer the increasing number of students a dedicated space for training and learning.
