St Mary’s Hosted Lecture Explaining Physics and Our Daily Lives

The School of Sport, Health and Applied Science at St Mary’s University, Twickenham held a public lecture about the use of physics in daily life.

As part of National Science and Engineering Week (14th – 23rd March 2014), the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science (SHAS) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham will be holding a public lecture about the physical phenomena behind the technology that we use every day. Titled Physics and our Daily Lives, the lecture will be delivered by St Mary’s Research Professor in Applied Science Prof John Nicholson on Tuesday 18th March. He will explore the ways in which physics helps us to live our comfortable and high-tech lives, from the use of mobile phones to materials. John Nicholson physics lecture Prof Nicholson said, “This lecture will look at some of the things we take for granted in the modern world, and explore their underlying physics.” The public lecture forms part of a three-day event to celebrate science and technology at the University, with workshops and lectures also taking place for high school and sixth form students. National Science and Engineering Week is a 10 day programme that aims to celebrate and raise the awareness of science, engineering and technology with a range of events and activities across the UK. It forms part of a number of events organised by the British Science Association. The free public lecture will take place from 7-8pm in the Lecture Theatre, G7 at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill Campus.
