St Mary’s University, Twickenham Alumni, Karen Bennett and Josh Tonnar, both won Gold medals at the 2014 World University Rowing Championships this weekend.
The 13th World University Rowing Championships took place from Friday 12th September with the finals being held on Sunday 14th September in Gravelines, France.
28 rowers were selected by British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), the national governing body for Higher Education (HE) sport in the UK, to race for Team Great Britain. The 28 were represented by students from 15 different universities, two of which studied at St Mary’s.
Former Sports Rehabilitation student and GB Women’s Four Gold medallist Karen Bennett was part of a composite women’s eight team which previously won the Women’s Elite Eights at the 2014 Henley Women’s Regatta.
Meanwhile, Josh Tonnar, who studied Health, Exercise and Physical Activity and Sport Science at St Mary’s competed in the Men’s Eight race and helped earn Team GB their forth Gold of the competition.
Overall GB Rowing Team topped the medals table with four Gold’s, one Silver and three Bronze medals.
