Staff, students and members of the local community are being invited to see the latest performance from the Drama students at St Mary’s University, Twickenham this April. Crow on the Cradle is a piece of devised theatre, created by postgraduate MA Physical Theatre (International Ensemble) students, based on The Visit by Swiss dramatist Friedrich Durrenmatt. Using a range of theatre performance styles including clowning, storytelling, fables and myths, this darkly comic production follows the lives of a generation of women living in the dilapidated town of Shankysplits. The male population of Shankysplits mysteriously disappeared many years ago after a dispute with some local crows, and now the women live out their abandoned lives by selling and buying the little that they have. A menacing murder of crows dominate the landscape of Shankysplits and the women’s only source of information on the strange, mythical creatures from days gone by known as ‘men’ is the town’s library. Life stutters along in this way until one day the women receive a mysterious visitor. Crow on the Cradle follows the hugely popular Skone Oke: The Curious Toy Shop of Dr Coppelius from the students last year and will run from Wednesday 9th April until Friday 11th April in Studio 3 at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus. Tickets cost £5 and the performance is open to student, staff and members of the public. For more information, please visit the Drama St Mary’s website.
