St Mary’s Sports and Societies Annual Conference

The Students' Union at St Mary's University College, Twickenham recently held its first Sports and Societies Conference for new committee members.

On Monday 9th September the Students’ Union at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham held its first Sports and Societies Conference for new committee members of all St Mary’s Sports Clubs and Societies. The conference included a number of workshops and seminars, designed to provide new committee members with the tools necessary to help them run their clubs effectively. The timetable for the day included workshops covering topics such as how best to promote your group, welfare within student activities and continuing development. There were also seminars from the Athletics Union President, Pietro Palladino, and Sports Officer, Tegan Pickles. Other departments within St Mary’s including Student Services, Careers, St Mary’s Clinic, and The Centre for Workplace Learning were represented in the Conference “Marketplace,” which took place at the beginning of the conference. The Marketplace serves as an opportunity for students to talk directly to the different services about what they can get involved in this forthcoming year. About the conference, Pietro said, “It was a fantastic day, we had over 50 students from various sports and societies attend. This was very promising as it shows how much our students care about their clubs and societies. It was the first time we have ever held a conference like this, so there were always things that would not go to plan, but it was very well received and we as a team will make it even more beneficial for the students next time round. Looking at the year ahead, I will be working very closely with all the clubs and societies with their continuing development, whilst also looking at establishing and assisting new sports and societies.”
