Lawrence Dallaglio Charity Fundraising Scheme Launched at St Mary’s

St Mary's University College, Twickenham hosted Lawrence Dallaglio for the launch of his charity’s partnership with O2’s Recycle for Rugby Campaign.

Twickenham is the home of English rugby, so it is fitting that St Mary’s University College recently hosted former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio as part of the launch of his charity’s partnership with O2’s Recycle for Rugby Campaign.

Lawrence’s charity, the Dallaglio Foundation, has teamed up with O2 to raise money for its Rugby for Change programme, a street engagement initiative that uses the inspiration, discipline and team spirit of young people at risk to change their lives.

During the forthcoming QBE International rugby matches running throughout November, O2 will donate all the proceeds, from phones and gadgets that go through its O2 recycle scheme, to the Rugby for Change scheme. The fundraising initiative was launched at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus ahead of the England vs Argentina match on Saturday 9th November with a photoshoot and media interviews on University College’s pitch. Lawrence even had time to speak to St Mary’s MA Sports Journalism students about his charity, which has already raised £7 million. Lawrence said, “England’s Autumn International fixtures will see rugby fans in their droves descend on Twickenham. If we can persuade even a small portion of those coming to watch the matches to bring old gadgets to the games to drop in the recycling bins and the fans at home to hand in their old devices at O2 stores, it will have a massive impact for Dallaglio Foundation Rugby for Change. So I look forward to seeing you and your old handsets at Twickenham or O2 stores this month.” St Mary’s is one of the leading sports institutions in London and is hosting several teams ahead of the QBE Internationals as part of their pre-match training programmes.
