St Mary’s University is delighted to invite students in their first and second year of sixth form or college to our Jane Austen inspired Creative Arts Masterclass Day.
You will have the unique opportunity to watch a full-dress rehearsal of ‘The Watsons’, brought to life by current St Mary’s students and take part in interactive filmmaking and acting workshops.

In this session, you’ll have the opportunity to watch a full-dress rehearsal of ‘The Watsons’, a clever and imaginative play adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, brought to life by St Mary’s students.
11:30: The Watsons Production Q&A with the creative teams
12:00: Lunch
12:45: Filmmaking session
A one-hour practical filmmaking session focused on film adaptation in relation to Jane Austen. We will explore the key differences between stage productions and films. Working with a short extract from a Jane Austen novel, you will have the opportunity to adapt and film a brief scene while experimenting with a variety of filmmaking techniques.

14:00: Acting to camera workshop
In this interactive workshop, you’ll explore the nuances of acting for camera within the context of a period drama, focusing on the unique mannerisms, attitudes, and social behaviours of historical settings.
