If you’re waiting for your results, you may (or may not) have be told that clearing doesn’t start until you get your results; but in the meantime, there is still plenty that you can be doing.
There are lots of reasons why you might be thinking about Clearing, so here’s how to make sure you’re prepared:
1: Find out what universities are offering your course, and similar
Most universities are already advertising the courses they have in Clearing on their websites. Now is the time to start googling the course that you’re interested, or even similar courses, and find out who is offering them.
If you have an idea of where you might like to go to through Clearing, you can save time on the day and focus on finding a place, it also allows you to make an informed decision that’s right for you.
2: Ring up and talk to a Programme Director
Universities have started taking enquiries, and are keen to hear about your interest in their courses. If you have any specific course related questions, they would be more than happy to answer them.
Which degree you decide to study is the most important decision you will make, so it’s important to make time to compare courses and get the answers to any queries you have.
This way means prior to results day, many questions you had will already be answered. Sounds less stressful, right?
3: Decide if you can you see yourself living there?
Lots of universities, across the country, are already offering tours of their campuses. To be fully ready for Clearing, you need to have an idea of whether or not you think you can call your future universities home.
If you’re considering a few options, it might be worth going to take a look around, or Googling to your heart’s content – what does the location of the univeristy have to offer? And can you see yourself there?
4: Make sure you have your admin ready
On the day, you’ll need a few things to hand: your UCAS ID (if you have one), contact information and grades. Things that can fall off the radar in the excitement of results day, but if you have them all together the night before, there’s nothing to worry about.
You’ll be prepared when you ring up institutions, and they can help you find a place quicker.
