About your programme

Module information

You’ll complete your course one block or ‘semester’ at a time. In each semester you’ll study modules. Some are core modules you have to take – others you’ll be able to choose between when you arrive, personalising the course to your interests.

In your first semester you will study the following modules:

• Contemporary Approaches to Player Development 

Contemporary Approaches to Player Development

This module will make you consider how your micro-level interactions can impact upon player development. You will be encouraged to interrogate your own and colleagues coaching practice and consider how yours and their approaches to player development can influence the quality of athlete learning and subsequent performance.

• Professional Development in Football Coaching 

Professional Development in Football Coaching

In this module you will investigate the learning that takes place via experiential learning situations, mentoring and the use of reflective practice. You will construct an evidence-based and personally appropriate programme of continuing professional development (CPD) through which you will demonstrate a critical appreciation of how you can benefit from a range of formal, non-formal and informal learning opportunities.

• Applied Research Methods 

Applied Research Methods

Sound research skills are increasingly important for career development in a wide range of professions including football coaching. This module will give students an in-depth knowledge of planning and designing research studies, methods of data analysis and skills in presenting and disseminating research findings. These skills will prepare you for conducting the Independent Project module as well as future applied research activities in your career.
