We offer online mathematics subject knowledge enhancement courses.

Distance learning (online) courses

To be eligible to undertake an online course:

  • you must have an offer of a place on a PGCE Teacher Training Programme with the SKE course a condition of that offer
  • you must not have attended any Department for Education (DFE) funded SKE courses previously
  • your teacher training course must match your SKE subject.

We are pleased to offer an 8-week and 16-week Maths GCSE and A level SKE.

These are provided for interview candidates with SKE conditional offers following their assessed performance on the assigned maths questions answered at interview. Taking a subject knowledge enhancement course for maths can be incredibly beneficial if knowledge is found lacking for either GCSE and/or A Level.

The UK GCSE and A Level specifications in mathematics have been reformed in the past eight years and these courses aim to:

  • develop an understanding of the topic areas you were weak on during the interview questions.
  • keep you abreast of the recent changes of specification and familiarity with the topics and style of questions (for example some A Level topics such as iterations were added to GCSE)
  • strengthening your understanding of mathematical concepts can significantly boost your confidence, making you more comfortable and effective in both teaching and any future interviews.

Ultimately, better subject knowledge translates to better student understanding and performance, which is a key goal for any teacher.

 There are three options:

  1. GCSE-only SKE Course – 8 weeks (200 hrs)
  2. GCSE and A Level SKE Course – 8 weeks per key stage (16 Weeks – 400 hrs)
  3. A level SKE course – 8 weeks (200 hrs)

The course is written by a practising teacher and the units are sequenced in order to progress you through the curriculum coherently. The course has a dedicated tutor, remote sessions and an assessment at the end of each Unit. It is a guided self taught program.

Finally, by investing in a subject knowledge enhancement course, you not only address any gaps identified during the interview but also set yourself up for long-term success in your teaching career.
