Other wellbeing initiatives

The Student Wellbeing Service works with other areas within the university to provide a range of activities for students that can support wellbeing, connect students with others and promote attainment.

This page provides a list of activities that we offer, do our Twitter and Instagram pages to keep up to date with our latest announcements, events and themed posts.

Mindfulness

Our weekly half an hour session during term time provides an opportunity to take a break, promote self-care and reset your mind. Sessions can help you stay focussed, motivated and manage your stress. Please check our social media for times and location information.

Active for All

Sports St Marys offer multiple free activities for all students throughout the year. Working closely with students’ sessions run weekly during term time and can be tailored to what students want to do. This is a space for all students to be active and engage in physical activity and sports together. Look out for information on the sports St Marys Instagram page.

No Ordinary Society

No Ordinary Society organises social activities such as mindfulness colouring-in, art classes, cooking classes, film nights and board games.

In addition to that they also offer adapted sport and physical activities such as sitting volleyball, boccia, ultimate Frisbee, yoga and kick-boxing.

The society has been a great success and is the perfect way for students who find joining other societies or sports teams a very daunting experience to integrate into life at St Mary's University and make new friends.

Wellbeing walks

During awareness campaigns and other university wide events we run wellbeing walks. These are a great opportunity to explore the beautiful grounds at St Mary’s whilst engaging in some mindfulness and promoting your mental health.

The Boundary Spanner Project

The Boundary Spanner Project is an initiative run as a partnership between Student Services, Widening Participation, Sport St Mary’s and academic staff. The project aims to use recreational exercise and art as a tool to help widening participation students feel more connected on campus and support them with their physical, mental and academic wellbeing. It currently aims to do this through it’s two flagship programmes:

Both programmes are free sessions to St Mary’s students and offer alternative social spaces to traditional university activities aimed at being inclusive for students from minority ethnic backgrounds, commute long distances, are diagnosed with learning differences, or who would benefit from wellbeing support.
