Medical emergencies

You can register as a temporary patient with a local GP and still remain registered with your permanent GP at university.

If it is an emergency, you can receive treatment from any GP surgery. GP surgeries hold back a number of appointments on the day for emergencies.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, or if you feel you pose an immediate risk to yourself or others, please call the emergency services on 999. 

A&E

In an emergency, please consider attending your nearest A&E, if you are able to do so and if it is safe for you to do so. The A&Es nearest to St Mary’s University with 24/7 service are:

Crisis support services

NHS 111 

If you feel that you are experiencing a mental health crisis (but not an emergency and not where you are at immediate risk of harm), please call 111 and choose the Mental Health Option (Option 2). 

GP 

Please contact your GP and ask for an emergency appointment if you are concerned about your mood, thoughts of self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or any worrying physical health concerns (not for emergencies). Outside of your GP practice’s working hours, please call 111.
