Biography
Wendy joined St Mary's as a lecturer in history from her role in school. She became the postgraduate programme lead for a year and then moved to the undergraduate programme where she next became the year three lead. She leads history and teaches history and geography across all programmes. She supports undergraduate students within her year lead, personal tutor and link tutor role.
Prior to joining St Mary's, Wendy taught across the full primary range including early years for which she was awarded the Early Years Professional Status. She has held leadership positions across all phases ranging from acting headteacher, deputy headteacher, phase leader, subject leader and ECT and student mentor. Wendy has also taught and held leadership roles for seven years in a SEND school. She has been a governor in three settings and been an external examiner for Birmingham Newman University.
Wendy is passionate about ensuring education meets the needs of all learners and she is particularly interested in how foundation subjects can contribute to this. She has led on teaching and learning across schools, in order to ensure children get access to a high standard of education, developing CPD and training programmes to support this.
Wendy seeks opportunities to work with local primary schools to devise activities where her history students can use their skills acquired in lectures to teach in school and in turn share their outstanding ideas. She has established a partnership with a local historic house where schools now bring their children on trips to be taught lessons which are planned and delivered by St Mary's students.
