Research profile
Phil Brewer is a specialist adviser on modern slavery at the Human Trafficking Foundation. He also works as a consultant developing and delivering a diverse range of strategic and tactical prevention projects.
He works with a wide range of organisations including Beyond Borders Scotland, Research in Practice, Global Secure Accreditation and the online hospitality course provider typsy.com.
He has also contributed to publications including Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery Law and Practice (Southwell, M Brewer, Douglas-Jones QC) as well as The Truth About Modern Slavery (Kenway).
Phil was a police officer for nearly 30 years, retiring from the London Metropolitan Police in September 2019 as Detective Superintendent and head of the Met’s modern slavery unit.
In addition to this role, Phil sat on several national modern slavery working groups as well as regularly representing UK Policing at the Europol Trafficking Human Beings Expert Group (Project Phoenix).
In 2021 Phil was awarded the Master of Arts in human trafficking, migration and organised crime by St Mary’s University, Twickenham, with distinction.
