Biography
Mark Frankel is a former BBC News journalist with over twenty-five years of experience in broadcast and digital media and a keen interest in political journalism and international affairs.
At St Mary's he has lectured in political communication to final year undergraduate students and is the module convenor for an MA on mediating migration, trafficking and diaspora.
He has worked as a visiting lecturer previously on social and digital media content production for City and Cardiff Universities and has trained journalists and journalist students on a variety of subjects, including podcasting, social media, and generative AI.

Research profile
Mark Frankel has a keen interest in the power and influence of online communities. He has published papers for Nieman Lab at Harvard University on "The promises and pitfalls of reporting within chat apps and other semi-open platforms: A journalist’s guide" and for The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University on Social Media Communities and Reporting of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
He is currently working on a new post-graduate course on the dark social net.
