Biography
Lauren Gurteen works closely with the staff and students of the Faculty of Business and Law to provide academic support where needed. She specialises in English for academic purposes and provides academic skills classes and English classes throughout the year among other tailored, specific short courses on a range of assessments and skills.
Lauren has over twelve years of experience in teaching English having worked in Europe, Asia and Latin America. She has a masters in TESOL and the Cambridge DELTA and CELTA certificates. She has also recently acquired her Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) qualification. Before her career in this field she worked in publishing and marketing for many years for companies such as HarperCollins, Walker Books, and the BBC.
Research
Research profile
Lauren's master's dissertation, which focused on pre-service and novice teachers' cognitions and attitudes towards teaching pronunciation, won a British Council award for 2018-2019. Since then, Lauren has been reading and considering a phd, possibly in creative writing.
Lauren has written over eighty short stories for the American ELT publisher: Voces for their ELT textbooks and often contributes to other professional blogs in the field. She most recently presented at MEXTESOL conference on the benefits of teaching English through the contextualised storytelling approach. Lauren is also currently writing her first novel.
