Dr Clare Saunders

Clare leads the Learning and Teaching team in the Centre for Teaching Excellence and Student Success. She holds responsibility for all academic development and educational enhancement activities, including:

• taught and professional recognition pathways to HE teaching qualifications
• continuing professional development for staff who teach and support learning
• advice and guidance on curriculum design and development
• sharing good practices and celebrating excellence in learning and teaching.

As a first-in-family graduate Clare is passionate about inclusion in higher education and is an active member of the University’s staff Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Board and the Race Equality Charter Self-Assessment Team.

Clare also represents the University on national learning and teaching networks, and is Co-Chair of the Staff and Educational Development Association. She is recognised as Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy for her strategic impact on learning and teaching nationally.

Clare’s doctoral research and early academic career in Philosophy continues to influence her thinking, and she retains an interest in questions of value and identity in higher education.
