Biography
Carolyn is Programme Lead for Primary Education Work-Based Routes (FdA Primary Education, FdA Early Years Education, BA Primary Education Work-Based Route and BA Primary Education Work-Based Route with QTS including specialisms in SEND or PE.)
Carolyn joined St Mary’s University in 2015 as a Placement Lecturer in the Centre for Workplace Learning working on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the university. Since 2019, Carolyn has been Programme Director for Work-Based Routes which is a highly regarded programme designed for working classroom teaching assistants. It provides a unique opportunity to gain a foundation degree and top-up courses to gain a full degree with or without Qualified Teacher Status.
Carolyn began teaching in Aberdeen in 1994 after gaining a BEd (Hons) QTS with specialisms in English and Music at Leeds Beckett University. Carolyn has taught in a variety of schools in Scotland and London for over twenty years as a KS1 and KS2 teacher with a range of roles and responsibilities and as a member of senior management teams. Carolyn worked closely with a local education Literacy Advisor, acting as a lead in English and supporting schools in her borough. She is passionate about primary education and ensuring there is an accessible route for all into the teaching profession.
