Rebecca Romero won gold in cycling's individual pursuit. The former rower has also won silver medal in a previous Olympic Games, but had to quit rowing due to a back injury and only took up cycling two years previously. The former student was inducted into the St Mary's Hall of Fame for Sport in 2011 during the opening of the new £8.5 million Sports Centre
Mara Yamauchi came sixth in the marathon, the first placed GB runner and the highest ever finishing position for a GB woman in this event. Mara is now providing coaching support to the EPACC squads and Performance Coaches at the University.
Former student, Matthew Wells, won a bronze medal in the men's double skulls with partner Steve Rowbotham.
