Join us to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month 2024!

  • Theme: Free to be Me (at St Mary's University (SMU) and beyond).
  • Date: Thursday 11th July 5-7.30pm.
  • Location: Senior Common Room, St Mary’s University, Twickenham.
  • Register: registration now closed.

For this year's event, SMU staff, students, and alumni came together to mark South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM), filling the Senior Common Room with rich discussions centred on this year's theme 'Free to Be Me'. Organised by the Race Equity Network, the event began with a panel discussion, chaired by Shabana Marshall, where panelists Sheela Patel, Bidisha Saikia, Anush Ganesh, Gagandeep Sachdeva, and Mandip Birk, each shared powerful reflections on what the theme meant to them within the context of their South Asian heritage.

The conversations then continued, whilst everyone enjoyed Bhangra beats and the delicious samosa and pakora generously donated by Panas Restaurant in Twickenham!

SAHM officially falls on 18th July to 17th August, during which time colleagues from Library services are hosting a display of South Asian literature, so please do pop along to the library and enjoy immersing yourself in some excellent reads!
