This module is aligned with Tier 3 of the Training Standards Framework for the Identification, Care and Support of the Victims and Survivors of Modern Slavery.
This module is aimed to meet the training and development needs of those who either:
- work in an organisation providing day-to-day practical support for victims/survivors of MSHT, for example, as a support worker or outreach worker
- work in a health and social care provider, law enforcement and criminal justice agency, civil society organisation, education, national or local government, or act as an independent advocate, where most of the individuals they support are victims/survivors of modern slavery, and the support they provide is beyond day-to-day practical support
- are supervisors of those who are providing day-to-day support to victims/survivors of MSHT.
Dates and times
This course consists of a combination of face-to-face and online sessions on Tuesdays from 4-7pm on the following dates:
- 30th January 2024 to 7th May 2024 (no classes on 26th March 2024 and 2 April 2024).
Face to face sessions on campus are scheduled on:
- 30th January 2024
- 27th February 2024
- 9th April 2024
- 30th April 2024
- 7th May 2024.
All other sessions will be delivered remotely online via zoom, unless instructed otherwise.
In addition to the workshops (in-person and on Zoom) students will need to self-study and prepare independently. This will require a time commitment of approximately 130 hours throughout the course.
Price
The full cost is £750 excluding the course assessment.
Participants can opt to take the course assessment at an additional cost of £250. The deposit cost is £50 which is payable upon application.

Content
This module provides the knowledge, understanding and practical skills for individuals to identify, support and care for victims of modern slavery that they may meet in their work.
The module has a distinctive focus on practical knowledge and skills delivered across four major themes, and will be supported by online materials, teaching workshops led by experts in the field, and face-to-face group sessions to encourage and support reflective practice.
Assessment
For participants who choose not to undertake the assignment, a certificate of attendance will be provided. Participants who complete and pass the course assessment will receive a certificate of accreditation at master’s level.
The assessment method is the production of a final portfolio (equivalent to 5,000 words) that should be submitted in June 2024 (date TBC).
Requirements
Module specific requirements
This is a practice-based course for professionals working in the sector. Therefore, it is expected that your role will bring you into contact with victims/survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking. You will need to have been in your role for six months and provide a reference from your line manager to support your application.
A minimum 2:2 honours degree (or equivalent) in arts, humanities or social sciences. Undergraduate degrees in other disciplines may be considered
Applicants with two years of relevant non-certified learning and professional experience in a relevant field of work, such as health, social services, police and third sector organisations will also be considered.
International students should check our country-specific pages for equivalents. If English is not your first language you will need to achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any section (or equivalent).

The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation Bursary
The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation has provided a small number of bursaries for those working in frontline organisations supporting victims/survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking. These bursaries will cover the tuition fees for successful applicants.

Successful students will receive a certificate of attendance and a transcript detailing 20 credits at master's level.
