As the member of staff with lead responsibility for students in care in school, the designated teacher, (along with the senior leadership team), has a fundamental role in helping to ensure that the school works with each student in care and their carers to support a successful transition.
How we work with designated teachers
- Tailored one to one support, working with the designated teacher to identify the appropriate transition programme for each student in the hub programme
- Tailored one to one support to identify how practice in relation to transition could be developed across the school
- Increased opportunities for learning and development on more general topics such as resilience, changes in adolescence and special educational needs
Outcomes of the programme for designated teachers
At the end of the programme designated teachers will:
- Have a greater knowledge and understanding of how to support students in care during transition
- Feel more confident and experience greater success in applying that knowledge and understanding
- Have initiated wider changes across the school in relation to transition for students in care
