Supporting trainees during school experience

St Mary's is committed to providing the best support to all trainees and facilitating high quality school experience for all.

St Mary's is proud of its diverse student body and aims to support all learners effectively during each aspect of their training.

Promoting wellbeing on placement

This guide aims to equip trainees with strategies to navigate potential challenges and promote their wellbeing throughout their placement. There is both specific guidance for those on school experience and general support for those engaging in placement-based training.

Trainees with declared disabilities

Some of our students have declared disabilities, which may mean they have a Learning Support Form (LSF) to ensure that appropriate adjustments are made for them at University and during their school-based training. All students with a declared disability or LSF are invited to attend a meeting with the Partnership Lead prior to commencing school experience. The purpose of this meeting is to anticipate any reasonable adjustments that could be made to support the trainee in school. These pages contains guidance, which has been created in collaboration with our students, staff, and Wellbeing and Disability & Dyslexia teams, for trainees and those supporting them on their placements.

International trainees

Some of our trainees move from abroad to train with us and their placement can be their first school experience in England. Therefore, we have worked closely with our international trainees to develop supportive content for all involved in their placement.
