Following a meeting of its Honorary Awards Committee St Mary’s University is planning to offer honorary Bachelors of Education to former students of the University who received a Certificate of Education up until 1983.
The Certificate of Education was a three year teacher training course. In the early 1980s it was no longer a requirement for teachers to hold a certificate and was instead replaced with a requirement for all trainees to complete a graduate or postgraduate course.
The University will be announcing in due course the arrangements by which alumni who hold a Certificate of Education can apply for an honorary degree.
