Students from the Business Management Programmes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham hosted Rt Hon Baron Mark Price of Sturminster Newton for a guest lecture in October.
Lord Price spoke to students from the Entrepreneurship Module on happiness in the workplace. He talked about the culture at the John Lewis Partnership and his own research into how happiness at work helped improve productivity, profits, staff retention and staff work life balance.
Lord Price began his career as a Graduate Trainee in the John Lewis Partnership before becoming a store manager and later joining the company board at Development Director. He then went on to become Managing Director of Waitrose, growing the company from 183 to 300 stores within six years and becoming Deputy Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership.
He left the Partnership in 2016 after being made a life peer and becoming Minister of State for Trade serving both David Cameron and Theresa May. He left Government in 2017 to found Engaging Works, a digital platform to boost happiness in the work place, with a mission to make the world a little happier.
