The Head of Widening Participation at St Mary’s University, Twickenham was a keynote speaker at a recent conference for education staff from across London.
Nikki Anghileri spoke at the event, which was jointly-held by St Mary’s and Middlesex University in partnership with the Linking London National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) at the NCVO Centre in Central London, and saw more than 40 people from secondary schools and colleges attend.
The conference offered practical guidance on wellbeing and learning development alongside a focus on future skills and preparing for the jobs of tomorrow, as well as equipping those preparing young people to navigate changes successfully with an understanding of what the future holds.
Nikki delivered a talk about the range of academic and pastoral support at St Mary’s, which received favourable feedback from those attending, with one calling it “extremely good and useful to understand what universities are doing in terms of student support.”
The Linking London NCOP is a strong partnership between universities, colleges and other stakeholders to deliver outreach programmes to 13-18 year olds where Higher Education participation is lower than expected considering the GCSE results of students who live there.
Luke Chapman, Widening Participation and Outreach Manager, said “We are really pleased with the success of this conference. It was good to collaborate with Middlesex and gain coverage on the important work St Mary’s is contributing to the NCOP. Nikki’s input was invaluable and gave exposure to the excellent support available to students at St Mary’s.”
