A first year High Performance Sports Scholar and Strength & Conditioning Science BSc student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has been selected for the Barbarians’ women’s rugby team for the first time.
Nora Baltruweit, who plays as a forward for Wasps Ladies and has numerous caps for her native Germany, has been called up to only the second ever Barbarians’ women match in history which will take place against the Army in Aldershot on Saturday 17th March.
Nora recently represented her country at the 2018 Rugby Europe’s Women’s 15s Championship and previously captained the Germany U18 Sevens squad while she also plays for the Women’s Rugby team at St Mary’s.
Nora said, “I am absolutely speechless about my selection, it was a big goal of mine since I heard there was going to be a women’s Barbarians team but I definitely didn't expect to be selected. I just saw the whole squad and am getting excited about next week. Nevertheless, I want to take my chance and show a really good performance, so the pressure is definitely on.”
Sports Development Manager at St Mary’s Lisa Cafferky added, “We are very proud of Nora’s selection for the Barbarians’ squad. It’s a huge honour for Nora to be selected to wear the Barbarians’ shirt for the first time and is testament to her hard work over the last couple of months.
"It’s great to see that she will have the opportunity to showcase her talent on an international stage and we wish her the best of luck in this iconic fixture.”
