An academic at St Mary’s University, Twickenham gave a series of lectures at a recent international teaching conference in Madrid.

Programme Director of the Sports Journalism MA at St Mary’s Dr Daragh Minogue taught at the 10th International Week at the CEU San Pablo University, Madrid, which invites Arts and Humanities academics from across Europe to teach on their international programme.

Daragh’s lectures focused on recent debates about national identity in the British sports media in the face of Brexit, whether sporting identity in Britain and Ireland is contributing to wider political divisions and how the sports media is readjusting its coverage of international sport in a globalised digital landscape.

Daragh, who is due to have a book on Sports Journalism published next year, said, “CEU San Pablo is an ideal partner for St Mary’s as they have a number of similar degree courses in Communications, Film and Media and a Masters in Sports Journalism.

“If any of our students are thinking about studying abroad for a year or a semester, they should definitely take a look at Madrid as all the classes are in English. I’m also hoping my visit encourages some of their students to come to St Mary’s.”
