St Mary’s University, Twickenham is set to welcome renowned Yale University Professor, Denys Turner on his public lecture tour later this month.
Professor Turner will deliver a lecture on ‘The Price of Truth: Herbert McCabe on Love, Politics and Death’ at St Mary’s InSpiRe Centre on 28th October. Herbert McCabe was an English-born Irish Dominican priest, theologian and philosopher who taught for many years at Blackfriars, Oxford and became known for his espousal of radical politics within his Church context.
The lecture tour isin collaboration with the Las Casas Institute at Blackfriars, Oxford and the Von Hügel Institute at St Edmund's College, Cambridge.
Professor Turner is a widely renowned British academic in the fields of philosophy and theology. He is currently Horace Tracy Pitkin Professor of Historical Theology at Yale University having been appointed in 2005 and was previously Norris-Hulse Professor of Divinity at Cambridge University. He has written and taught on a wide range of subjects including political and social theory in relation to Christian theology, as well as on medieval thought, in particular, mystical theology.
Professor Turner’s lecture tour follows the successful series of lectures ‘Ethical Standards in Public Life’ which was organised by St Mary’s, the Von Hügel Institute and the Las Casas Institute. The series featured a number of high-profile speakers including St Mary’s own Vice-Chancellor, Francis Campbell, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams and Baroness Shirley Williams.
