The First Women in Law Symposium hosted by the Law Programmes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham is being supported by a grant from the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS).
The symposium is the first in a larger series planned over the next five years to explore the history of the first women in law. It will explore the context of the Sex Disqualification Act of 1919 and the journey of the first women lawyers who were able to practise law as a result of the act.
The grant, which will help support travel and refreshment costs incurred by delegates at the symposium, is funded through the advancement of legal education objectives of SLS.
Lecturer in Law at St Mary’s Judith Bourne said, “I am very grateful to the SLS for their support through this grant. The symposium promises to be very exciting, with plenaries from leading academics, and papers from England, Australia, India and Estonian.”
The symposium will be held at 10am on the 9th September on the University’s Strawberry Hill campus. For further information and to book tickets please click here.
