This weekend (6th and 7th December), St Mary’s University, Twickenham held its first ever Christmas Community Festival which aimed to bring the local community and students closer together.
The event, which was organised by St Mary’s Students’ Union, comprised two days of Christmas activities on the University’s Strawberry Hill campus.
Saturday was the busiest day of the Festival with live music, stalls from a host of local businesses and charities, and a carol service held in the University Chapel. This was followed by Vice-Chancellor Francis Campbell turning on the St Mary’s Christmas lights for the very first time.
A nativity play was performed on Sunday, starring students from a range of St Mary’s sports clubs and societies. The weekend was then wrapped up with a Community Mass.
The Festival proved to be a huge success with glowing reports from students and members of the local community. Students’ Union President Ryan Jones said, “The weekend was very, very enjoyable and it really captured the St Mary’s Christmas spirit. It was great to bring the local community on to campus and have them mixing with our students. We hope it’ll be the first of many similar events!”
