St Mary’s Alumnus Wins Gold at World Rowing Championships

Moe Sbihi, a former student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, recently secured Gold at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam on 30^th August. Team Great Britain claimed ten medals in total and even set a new world best time. Moe, along with George Nash, Alex Gregory and Andy Triggs Hodge rounded off an unbeaten season with a crowd-arousing performance to take the Gold medal in the Men’s Coxless Four ahead of stiff competition from the likes of the United States and Australia. Having already won the European title and two World Cup Gold medals before securing the world title on Saturday, the quartet is being dubbed the ‘fantastic four’by several media outlets. In an interview with the BBC, Moe said, "There is more to come, especially technically, and we're only going to get physically stronger." Moe, who studied Sport Science with Health, Nutrition and Exercise as part of a sports scholarship at St Mary’s, has saw his career go from strength to strength in recent years –he was previously part of the GB team that won Bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Speaking of Moe’s success, Andrew-Reid Smith, Director of Sport St Mary’s, commented, “Moe was a member of the Bronze winning Men's Eight at London 2012 and it's great to see him in the Coxless Four, a GB boat that has won Gold at the last four Olympics.
