Former Lecturer Wins Ironman Championship

A former lecturer and Programme Director at St Mary’s University, Twickenham was crowned the champion in the women’s Ironman European Championships which took place in Frankfurt on Sunday 6th July. Corinne Abraham, who won the Ironman Asian-Pacific Championships in 2013, won the race almost four minutes ahead of her nearest competitor. Her finishing time of 8:52:40 was the third fastest course time in the competitions history. Corinne is now in position to compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in October, having missed last year’s competition due to injury. The Ironman European Championships is an annual triathlon event that sees athletes participate in a 2.4 mile swim course, a 122 mile bike race and a 26.21 marathon run. It is one of a number of Ironman events that leads up to the Ironman World Championships.
